The beta will include a "diverse sampling of major activities" from Destiny, says a joint statement from Bungie and Activision.
Described as a "shared world shooter," Destiny pits players as Guardians of the last city on Earth. The game allows players to participate in solo, cooperative and competitive missions seamlessly without having to exit a playthrough. Players choose between a Titan, Hunter or Warlock, customizing their gear and weapons based on skillset.
Destiny is scheduled to launch in spring 2014.
The game is part of a 10-year deal Activision reached in 2010 to earn the publishing rights for a new video game property designed by Bungie, creators of the Xbox blockbuster Halo.
