Grand Theft Auto V may have made over $1 billion in just three days but Rockstar is looking at the long game by introducing micro transactions

GTA Online will feature micro transactions after Rockstar released a blog post confirming that the multiplayer aspect of GTA V would allow players to spend real money on in-game currency.

This follows the leak by a Reddit user who found code suggesting that gamers would be able to buy in-game 'cash cards' giving easier access to guns, cars and property which in turn has to be unlocked through reputation.

In the blog post Rockstar is keen to state that despite adding this feature the game experience won't be negatively affected saying,

"The game and its economy have been designed and balanced for the vast majority of players who will not buy extra cash. There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game."

"You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker. The economy is balanced differently from the single player economy, and cash earned in one cannot be taken over to the other."

There's no word on how much real money you can spend but Eurogamer reports that sources have revealed you'll be able to spend between £1.99 and £13.49 on in-game currency.

The blog post itself is an update focusing on the overall readiness of GTA Online warning that there will almost certainly be teething problems after it was revealed that the developer would be buying up extra server space just to accommodate the number of anticipated players.

The Scottish-based developer is apparently aware of the issue and is already looking into finding a fix.
